My Top 5 Manga Series

After my Top 5 Animation Series, now it is my Top 5 Manga Series of the year. Frankly speaking, this Top 5 is really very hard for me to decide. This is due to I did not read many manga series, I mean I just started to read online manga since last May. Before that, I have stopped for a long time for reading the manga. Thus I did not have the chance to read many series. Moreover, some I only watching the animation series instead of reading the manga series, eg. Special A, Ouran the High School Host Club, Color Cloud Palace, La Cordo Prima Passo and Fairy Tail. Thus, these series would not be counted in my reading manga series and of course they would not appear in my Top 5 Manga Series list.

Overall, there is limited manga series for me to decide for my Top 5 Manga Series. I only will select based on the manga series that I have read or currently reading. Guess, some of you would probably know my top 5 manga series though! :P

Anyway, the results of my Top 5 Manga Series of the Year is .........

#5 -- Skip Beat! (Yoshiki Nakamura)
A16-year-old girl who discovers that her childhood friend and romantic goal, Sho Fuwa, only keeps her around to act as a maid and earn his living expenses, as he works his way to become the top pop idol in Japan. Furious and heart broken, she vows to get revenge by beating him in show business.

Reason to be Selected:
A very interesting story, the drawings are very good in showing the expressions of the characters. The story is a little different from the typical sweet romance shojo series.

#4 -- Ouke no Monshou / Crest of the Royal Family (Hosokawa Chieko)
The main character is Carol, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed American teenager from a wealthy family with an interest in Egyptology studying in Cairo. When her mentor discovers the tomb of a young pharaoh, a curse is put on the excavation team and Carol. The curse sends her back in time to ancient Egypt, where she becomes embroiled in the affairs of Egypt and other ancient countries such as Assyria and Babylonia. Carol meets Memphis, a handsome young pharaoh whose tomb she excavated in modern times. Despite his headstrong, at first violent nature, they fall deeply in love. This angers Memphis's half-sister, the Priestess Isis, who has longed to marry him. Carol, due to her exotic looks and curious ability to tell the future, becomes a major player in ancient history.

Reason to be Selected:
This is the manga series that I have been stopped reading for many years and only started to read it last year. It is a very popular manga series for my school days, as the story is very exciting and beautiful. Although the drawings are not as beautiful or cute as other shojo manga series, but the storyline is attracting, thus its the story that I keep on reading since many years.

#3 -- Kyō, Koi wo Hajimemasu (Kanan Minami)
Despite Tsubaki Hibino's talent in styling other people's hair, she isn't comfortable with doing the same for herself. On her first day of high school, she is immediately looked down upon her delinquent-like classmates for her old-fashioned taste. When she is teased by the top student, Kyouta Tsubaki, who shares the same name as her, she defiantly cuts his hair. Interested in her actions, Kyouta decides to make her his target.
Kyouta, who is not only a promiscuous playboy but also has control of the class, makes Tsubaki need him during class activities, although Tsubaki attempts to resist his advances. Gradually, the two begin to fall in love with each other until Tsubaki discovers that Kyouta cannot commit himself into a relationship due to his mother and a nurse he trusted. However, after understanding Tsubaki's trust in him, Kyouta begins to heal emotionally as he opens his heart up to Tsubaki. But with both of them having their first experiences in love, troubles start to weigh and test their relationship.

Reason to be Selected:
A very romantic and passion love story. The lead male character is very COOL and sexy! :p

#2 --  Kaichō wa Maid-sama! (Hiro Fujiwara)
Seika High School, once an all-boys school notorious for its wild students and for generally being a terrifying place for girls, has recently become a co-ed school. With the female population still a minority and living in fear of the over-the-top antics of the males, Misaki Ayuzawa takes it into her own hands to reform the school and allow the girls to feel safe in the rough environment.
Training, studying and even becoming the first female student council president of the school, Misaki has gained a reputation among the male students body as an uptight boy-hating dictator and as a shining hope for the teachers and fellow female students. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid cafe in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her hard-earned reputation is threatened when the popular, attractive, and somewhat impassive Takumi Usui takes an interest in her after discovering her in a maid uniform after school.

Reason to be Selected:
A very sweet and romantic shool-life story. My first online reading manga series. A typical shojo love story. Both the lead male and female characters are COOL and CUTE respectively! A very good match for me. The story is funny sometimes but I like it.

So, can you guess my Top 1 Manga Series?! Any ideas?! :P Haha! Let's roll the drum.......

Ta-da........ the winner is .......

#1 -- Vampire Knight (Matsuri Hino)
Yuki Cross's earliest memory is of being attacked by a vampire and saved by Kaname Kuran, a pureblood vampire for whom Yuki tries to deal with her seemingly unobtainable love for her hero. Ten years later, Yuki, along with her childhood friend, Zero Kiryuu are school guardians (prefects) at Cross Academy where her adoptive father, Kaien Cross is the headmaster. Their jobs as guardians is to protect the human "Day Class" students from the vampire "Night Class" students and ensure that the human students do not discover the secret of the Night Class. The story follows Yuki's discovery that Zero had been turned into a vampire and her struggle to keep him sane, to prevent his condition from deteriorating into an Level E vampire. Yuki attempts to give up her humanity and be turned into a vampire by Shizuka Hio, Zero’s family's murderer and his master, in a bargain for Zero's sanity. Zero stops Yuki, preferring to kill Shizuka. Neither occurs when Zero's assumed dead twin (Ichiru Kiryuu) shows up, and Kaname kills Shizuka and drinks her blood. Zero’s grip on sanity slides and Yuki continues to help Zero fight his bloodlust while also seeking to recover her lost childhood memories suspecting Kaname knows more than he lets on. Kaname instead gives Zero his own blood to help keep Zero from going insane.
Seeing the threat of his uncle, Rido Kuran, Kaname bites Yuki and awakens her true nature as a pureblood vampire; the Pure blood Princess of the Kuran family. However, Kaname reveals to Takuma Ichijo that he is one of the original vampires and the founder of the Kuran clan, who, born thousands of years earlier, had retired to an endless slumber, but was resurrected by Rido Kuran who desired to consume him to become more powerful. Kaname was instead raised by Yuki's parents, Juri and Haruka Kuran. Rido tries to kill Yuki and consume her power, but is killed by the now estranged Zero and Yuki. Meanwhile, Kaname kills Rido’s allies, the members of the vampire senate who intended to destroy the night class and their hopes for peace. After the fierce battle, Zero tells Yuki that he intends to end everything, by killing all purebloods. After telling her that she should go be with the man who can spend eternity with her Yuki in return tells Zero that she will keep running from him to give him a reason to live. Yuki leaves with Kaname and they return to the family home to hide.
The story then leaps forward a year to find Yuki suffering from bloodlust and refusing to use her fangs. Kaname has restored the leadership of the vampires, taking his place as head. Zero has been attending school by day and hunting vampires at night. Yuki confesses to Kaname that she has an attachment to Zero and his acceptance allows her to succumb to her hunger and use her fangs. After a meeting between the hunters and vampires to reaffirm their treaty, all three attend a vampire ball. After a brief tense meeting between Yuki and Zero, a murder of a pureblood and a hunter at the ball breaks up the party. Although another pureblood, Sara Shirabuki, is revealed to be the culprit, it is passed off as a tragic suicide.
Yuki decides to offer her services as a grim reaper to purebloods wishing to die to prevent unnecessary sacrifices. However after an unprovoked attack by a pureblood, Touma, she is saved by Zero’s arrival. Their meeting is brief as after she awakens, she flees back to her home leaving Aido with Zero. Kaname, after the attack on Yuki finally reveals his past and true identity to her through the memories in his blood.

Reason to be Selected :
The story line is very different from others shojo series. Although it is a bit dark/heavy for the story but it seems very mysterious and this kind of story attracts me to read. Moreover, all the vampires are very COOL instead of scary in the story, esp. the COOL ZERO!!! This is the only manga series that keeps me want to know the ending, but the story is still on-going. Thus I am addicted to this manga and it is my no.1!!! :)

So, this is my TOP 5 Manga Series of the Year. Yes, they are all shojo manga series as I like shojo manga since I started to read manga. That's why one of my cyber friend said I am "shojo"girl! Haha! But I do not deny it! :P

Anyway, I guess it's your turn to let me know your Top 5 Manga Series of the Year now. All are welcome here!
