Tohru Fujisawa's series moves to Magazine Special after Weekly Shōnen Magazine run ends
The 44th issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine revealed on Wednesday that Tohru Fujisawa's GTO spinoff manga, GT-R (Great Transporter Ryuji), will resume in 2013 in Kodansha's monthly Magazine Special anthology. The same issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine had published the magazine's final chapter. GT-R premiered in June, and it focuses on Onizuka's close friend and drinking buddy Ryūji Danma from the earlier GTO: The Early Years (Shonan Junai-gumi) series. Kodansha will compile and publish GT-R in a single book volume on November 16.
Tokyopop published Fujisawa's GTO and GTO: The Early Years in North America. In 2009, Fujisawa returned to the character of Onizuka with Shonan 14 Days, and Vertical is publishing both GTO: Shonan 14 Days and the later volumes of GTO: The Early Years in North America. Fujisawa just finished Shonan 14 Days last year, but he launched a three-chapter spinoff in November.
