Korean Historical Drama -- Sungkyunkwan Scandal

I have started to watch a new Korean historical TV drama lately which shows on the channel ShuangXin on Astro (channel 324) started from 2/9/2011. This TV drama is showing on every Monday to Friday at 8:30pm to 9:30pm. The story is about the adventures of the 4 main leads in the school. This TV drama is based on a popular teen novel. It is a campus romance story of an older period. Released in 2007, the novel was on the bestselling lists of major online bookstores, dealing with the friendship and romance between four students at a Confucian academy during the Joseon Dynasty.

Title        : Sungkyunkwan Scandal / 成均馆绯闻
Genre     : Drama, Comedy, Romance, Period

Episodes : 20
Air Time : Every Monday to Friday, 8:30pm - 9:30pm @ Channel SHX of Astro
(channel 324)
Story  :
Sungkyunkwan Scandal is set in Sungkyunkwan University in the late Joseon era during the reign of King Jeongjo, revolving around the exploits and love stories of four youths. When her younger brother’s illness worsens and their family is in danger of being evicted from their house for lack of money, Kim Yoon Hee enters the school under his name, disguised as a boy in her desperation to support him. There, she becomes friends with the intelligent and upright Lee Sun Joon, the playboy Goo Yong Ha and rebellious Moon Jae Shin.

Cast :

Micky Yoochun as Lee Sun Joon
Park Min Young as Kim Yoon Hee
Song Joong Ki as Goo Yong Ha
Yoo Ah In as Moon Jae Shin
Seo Hyo Rim as Ha Hyo Eun
Kim Min Seo as Cho Sun
Jun Tae Soo as Ha In Soo
Kang Sung Pil as Im Byung Choon
Kim Dong Yoon as Seol Go Bong
Chae Byung Chan as Kang Moo
Ahn Nae Sang as Jung Yak Yong
Park Geun Soo as Yoo Chang Ik

Daemul Kim Yun-hee (Park Min-young)(the lead actress of "City Hunter"), a girl who disguises herself as a boy named Kim Yun-sik to enter the school instead of her sick brother; Garang Lee Seon-jun (Micky), a perfect man of etiquette and example who judges others by his principles and yet, is ruled by a sincere heart. With his low voice and gentle expressions, he is the core weapon in the "SungKyunKwan Quartet". Yeorim Gu Yong-ha (Song Joong-ki), l’homme fatale who is given to wine and women; and Geolo Moon Jae-shin (Yu A-in), a troublemaker with masculine charm.

Micky, a member of the idol boy group JYJ is making his acting debut playing one of the four protagonists. The other three leads are Park Min-young, Song Joong-ki, and Yu A-in, who are young rising stars. Song has gained popularity for his cheery, cute roles. Yu, who started an acting career from childhood, has successfully grown into an adult actor. For Park, this is the third period drama she has appeared in after “Korean Ghost Stories” in 2008 and “Princess Jamyeong.”
I have watched the first 2 episodes of this TV drama already and I kind of like it as I found the story is very interesting. Moreover, I think all the 4 main characters are unique and charming in their own ways which makes the drama even more watchable!

"Sungkyunkwan Scandal" has also won some awards in the year 2010 and 2011. The winning awards are listed as below :-

I have watched 5 episodes of the TV series already. For me, it is the live action version from the anime series. All the actors are very funny and hilarious, especially the actor who plays for the role of Tamaki-sama. I think his acting is very exaggerating and hilarious. He is very similar to the anime series role. Haha! I think the lead actor is very suitable for the role as she looks good either in boy look or girl look. Among all the characters, I like the actors who played as Kyoya and Morinozuka Takashi. I think they are very cool! :P I also have blogged about the anime/manga series of "Ouran High School Host Club" before. If you would like to read about it, you may click here.

OK, let us take a sneak preview of some scenes of the TV series.
